To celebrate the 24th birthday of the festival, we are delighted to be returning to the Maltings.

Sea Fever has been staged at the Wells Maltings since its inception in 2018.

Wells was once one of the most important ports on the north Norfolk Coast. With its sandy beaches, vibrant sea-front and distinctive vernacular architecture it still has much to interest and a great deal to charm. The Maltings  is a striking brick and flint building built in the mid-19th century when the port was at its height. With the decline of sea trade, the building became a community centre. Twenty-five years ago it made an ideal venue for Poetry-next-the-Sea.

In 2016 the Maltings closed for refurbishment. With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and a range of partnership funders and generous individuals, the building was  extended and the existing spaces refitted. The result is a cultural, community and heritage hub for both Wells itself and the Norfolk Coast as a whole.
